Sam Rifici established his first men’s hairdressing business, in Lake Street, Northbridge in January 1946 and opened a second salon in Wembley in 1950.
His first ladies salon was established in Hay Street, Perth in 1958.
In 1959, Sam opened another ladies hairdressing salon in Murray Street, the largest salon in Perth.
For the years 1949 to 1951, Sam achieved the status of Australian Hairdressing Champion. His talent was so in demand that in the early 1960’s, he required a 10 shilling deposit to hold appointments!
From his humble beginnings he went on to establish a network of 23 salons throughout the Perth metro area, Kalgoorlie and Singapore.
Today the legacy created by Sam continues with family operating the salon at Floreat Forum Shopping Centre since the opening in 1965. It was the first enclosed shopping centre in Perth, and Sam Rifici Hair Care was an original foundation salon at the centre.
